How to read these numbers
FortiWiFi is a FortiGate with a wireless radio built in. The model numbering matches exactly — an FWF-60F is an FG-60F with an AP — and so do the firewall specifications. Everything in the FortiGate entry-level comparison applies here unchanged.
More on choosing within this range
The trade is coverage against consolidation. One FortiWiFi covers a small office from a single box with a single support contract and a single management point. Beyond roughly one floor or one open-plan room, a FortiGate plus dedicated FortiAPs will give better coverage and roaming for similar money.
Current FortiWiFi variants exist for the 30G, 40F, 50G, 60F, 70G and 80F. Note that the 70F and 90G have no wireless variant — if you want that performance tier with integrated wireless, the 70G is the model.
Before you order
How big is the coverage area?
One room or one small floor: FortiWiFi. Multiple rooms, multiple floors, or anywhere users roam between areas: a FortiGate plus FortiAPs, because you cannot reposition an antenna that is bolted to your firewall.
Which WiFi generation do you need?
The wireless radio generation varies by model and by regional SKU. Confirm the required standard — this is one of the few places where the wireless spec, not the firewall spec, should drive model choice.
Will the site grow?
A FortiWiFi can manage external FortiAPs later, so starting with one box and adding APs as the site grows is a valid path. The firewall's max-FortiAP limit is the real ceiling — 16 on a 30G, 96 on a 70G.
Regulatory domain?
Wireless SKUs are region-locked. We will confirm the correct regional part number before ordering — a wrong-region FortiWiFi is not a returnable configuration error.
