FortiGate Cloud & FortiEdge Cloud
Hosted management, logging and reporting with nothing to run yourself
- Licensing
- Subscription by device and retention tier
- Managed device types
- FortiGate, FortiSwitch, FortiAP
- Capabilities
- Configuration backup, logging, reporting, provisioning
FortiGate Cloud provides hosted management, configuration backup, logging and reporting for FortiGate deployments with no on-premises FortiManager or FortiAnalyzer. FortiEdge Cloud does the same for LAN edge — cloud management of FortiSwitch and FortiAP at sites with no local firewall.
Where it fits — and where it stops fitting
For small and distributed estates this is frequently the right architecture rather than a compromise — the management plane becomes somebody else's operational problem. Check the log retention tier against your regulatory requirement before committing, and note that logs leave your premises.
Highlights
- No management appliance to run, patch or back up
- Configuration backup and restore included
- Suits many small sites better than a central appliance
- FortiEdge Cloud covers sites with no local FortiGate
Typical deployments
- Distributed retail or franchise estates
- Organisations without infrastructure staff to run FortiManager
- Cloud-managed switching and wireless at branch sites

Questions worth answering before you order
How many sites, and how many devices per site?
Many small sites favours cloud management. Few large sites favours on-premises FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer.
What retention do you need?
Cloud log retention tiers are finite. If you have a long regulatory retention requirement, check it against the tier before committing.
Any data-residency constraints?
Logs leave your premises. For some regulated workloads that alone settles the question in favour of on-premises.
